Diving Santorini with Navys Waterworld Dive Centre

Environmental Work

We are an official partner of Project AWARE, a non-profit aquatic environmental education and research affiliate, and as such we operate with ecological awareness and responsibility. Please visit www.projectaware.org for more details.

Our environmental aims are twofold: We aim to minimise our impact on the environment. We recycle trash wherever possible (your dive light batteries can be left with us for proper disposal, for example), we have changed the engines on our boats to low-emission 4-stroke outboards with particle filters and have installed mooring buoys at most of our dive sites to minimise anchor damage. Our briefings on the boats include information about responsible iNavys Waterworld Dive Center Environment Worknteractions with aquatic life and buoyancy techniques to avoid damaging the reefs. We aim to reverse some of the damage caused to the underwater environment by tourism and fishing, through action and education.

Every year we organise an underwater clean-up of the dive sites in a worldwide co-ordinated effort with Project AWARE and encourage our divers to remove any debris they come across on all other dives.

We also have Eric Hallberg (a marine biology professor from Lund University in Sweden) here during the summer to give free lectures on the life in the Mediterranean. They are informative, fun and open to anyone who has an interest in better understanding the underwater world. We offer courses starting daily in underwater naturalism, fish identification and peak performance buoyancy.
